What Is RNA Sequencing?
RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) involves the sequencing of RNA transcripts in a given sample which facilitates their quantification in downstream analyses.
RNA comes in many forms, but the primary form for transcriptomic analysis is messenger RNA (mRNA). mRNA is transcribed from genes in DNA and contains the information to make a protein. Thus, identifying and quantifying mRNA transcripts in a sample gives us a picture of what genes are activated in that sample.
Bulk RNA-seq using Illumina’s NovaSeq X Series and NovaSeq 6000 Series platforms offered by Sampled allow for sequencing of all RNA species (mRNA and non-coding RNAs), giving not only a view of gene activation but also a picture of the regulatory RNA landscape within a sample.
Bulk RNA-seq can be performed on a sample containing many cells, but with the power of the 10x Genomics transcriptomics Chromium X and Chromium Connect platforms, Sampled also provides single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq); that’s a snapshot of gene expression at single-cell resolution. Why Use Sampled’s RNA Sequencing Services?
Trusting Sampled’s team of experts with your precious samples for RNA sequencing and analysis comes with many benefits:
Robust Gene Expression Comparisons
At the fundamental level, high-quality RNA-seq allows you to accurately compare gene expression profiles across a variety of samples and conditions; an incredibly powerful technology. Where Sampled stands out is in its attention to detail and commitment to quality. As every bioinformatician will tell you, poor-quality RNA leads to poor-quality data. By trusting Sampled with your samples and analysis, you are ensuring that you will get reliable transcriptomic data you can trust.
Partnered with Global Leaders
Sampled partners with global leaders in the field of genomic and transcriptomics like 10x Genomics for their Chromium X and Chromium Connect and Illumina for their NovaSeq X Series and NovaSeq 6000 Series. With Sampled, you are getting the very best sequencing analysis from experts using the latest sequencing technologies.
Sampled is a certified service provider of 10x Genomics systems, which means our clients have access to cutting-edge scRNA-seq. This new technology allows for transcriptomic analysis at single-cell resolution allowing researchers and clinicians to tackle pressing challenges like tumor heterogeneity with confidence.

How Does RNA Sequencing Work?
Sampled works with a wide variety of sample types, from clinical samples to samples from academic research labs. The starting material is RNA, which can be extracted in-house or received directly from clients. Extracted RNA must pass quality control analysis before being taken forward for further processing.
High-quality RNA is fragmented into smaller, more manageable sizes before end repair and polyadenylation are performed. Then the RNA is converted to complementary DNA through a process called reverse transcription before being barcoded with DNA adapters (small, artificial DNA sequences).
Given the variety in outputs for RNA-seq, such as scRNA-seq, Sampled’s team of experts works with the client to decide what platform is best for their needs, as well as offering advice on depth and coverage tailored to the specific goal of the experiment. Sampled is partnered with pioneering sequencing companies like 10x Genomics and Illumina, so whatever your goals, Sampled uses only the latest platforms to help you achieve them.
Quality assurance analysis is performed to ensure that high-quality, reliable data has been obtained. From here, Sampled can send the data to the client for in-house analysis, or our team of experts can perform a wide array of analyses depending on the goals of the research. A second unbiased analysis is the perfect way to validate in-house results and helps to ensure that the conclusions drawn from the data are robust.
What Are the Input Requirements for RNA Sequencing?
RNA can be extracted from a wide variety of samples and species by Sampled’s team of technical experts. Clients can also send pre-purified RNA for analysis.
Samples typically used for analysis include:
|High-quality RNA sourced from blood, serum, saliva, tissue biopsies, hair, nail, stool, urine, semen, and cell line samples/pellets
We also work with pre-extracted RNA
|Pre-extracted RNA should be stored at -20 °C or lower, and shipped on dry ice
For information on other tissue types, please contact a member of our team
Your sample will be carefully processed to ensure that only high-quality RNA is taken forward for processing and sequencing.
