What Is Data Storage?
Data storage services at Sampled are central to our capacities as a global integrated analytical biorepository, ensuring accurate and secure data throughout shipping, storage, analytics, and reporting pipelines.
Data storage means the storage of any and all information pertaining to a sample. This includes, but is by no means limited to, information related to sample type, transport, receipt, physical location, processing, analysis results, and chain of custody. Effective data storage ensures that information is both secure and easily accessible. Here at Sampled, we recognize our clients’ ownership of their data, and will never sell or distribute data to third parties without our clients’ instruction.
At Sampled, our LIMS system is integrated at every stage of sample processing and acts as the bedrock of our data storage capabilities. Through LIMS, we track every interaction between Sampled’s team and your sample to ensure full accountability. Layered on top of LIMS is our SampledSphere system which acts as a digital cloud portal providing a user-friendly, client-specific interface for data retrieval.

Accessibility and Security
At Sampled we set up application programming interfaces to suit the client’s needs allowing for automatic status updates so you can be sure your samples are processed in line with an agreed timescale. Access to the data is controlled by our client and they have the power to decide who accesses what via defined authority levels. The data we store is fully owned by our clients, so they always have full control.
Functional Quality Control
Sampled uses a proprietary 96 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) panel (DNA fingerprint) that allows us to verify sample identity and uniqueness, and that it matches the other data we have from the sponsor and clinical collection sites. This can also be used to control for issues in downstream analysis such as unexpected sequencing results, poor primary sample quality, and possible contamination at source. This extra level of control makes Sampled unique within the industry!

How Does Data Storage Work?
At Sampled we begin data storage as soon as your sample arrives.
We immediately enter all relevant information into our LIMS system which will update each time the sample is handled or processed. To make data retrieval and access more flexible for our clients we created SampleShpere, an adaptive interface layered on top of LIMS. SampledSphere enables clients to access all LIMS data but in a more user-friendly interface that the clients themselves define.
SampledSphere acts as a portal, translating information stored in LIMS into the format required by the client, offering client-specific customization, while retaining a single source of truth and data architecture.
Input Requirements for Data Storage
The input requirements for data storage depend on the type of sample being stored. Here at Sampled, we work with species including, but not limited to human, mouse, rat, and process a variety of samples such as:
- Tissue biopsies
- Cell line samples/pellets
- Protein samples
- Isolated nucleic acids (DNA/RNA)
Data storage also includes any results data associated with the sample such as MicroArray results.
