A new documentary featuring Sampled explores how biological samples drive research, drug discovery and development, powered by advanced technology infrastructure.
Medical breakthroughs are often defined by the final result: a new therapy, diagnostic approach, biomarker, or technology. Behind those outcomes are biological samples and years of research that depend on those materials being carefully protected, tracked, processed, and analyzed.
A new documentary featuring Sampled, hosted on CNBC.com as part of the Global Thought Leaders series, spotlights the role biological samples and the systems surrounding them play across research and drug development.
As research programs become larger and more sophisticated, maintaining sample integrity, traceability, continuity, and accessibility is increasingly important. Biological samples may be collected across multiple sites and time points, stored for years, and revisited as new technologies and research questions emerge.

Biological samples collected for research and clinical programs may move between multiple providers over the course of their lifecycle. A single sample may pass from collection to processing, laboratory analysis, and ultimately long-term storage. Each transfer, temperature change, freeze-thaw cycle, or additional handling step can introduce risk that may affect the reliability of the data generated from that sample.
At its Piscataway, New Jersey facility, Sampled combines a large-scale sample storage biorepository with sample processing and advanced laboratory capabilities, including next-generation sequencing, single-cell and spatial technologies, proteomics, and bioinformatics. Housing these services in the same location, supported by standardized workflows and operating procedures, can reduce handoffs and transfer-related risk across the sample lifecycle while supporting more consistent, reliable data.
That continuity becomes even more important as analytical technologies advance. Properly preserved and well-characterized biological materials can continue supporting research as new technologies emerge, allowing researchers to revisit samples, generate new data, and address questions that may not have been possible when those samples were first collected.
