Histology
Sampled’s team of histology experts is ready to help you get the most from your tissue samples. Histology is a technically challenging and time-consuming process; by outsourcing to Sampled, you know your samples are in expert hands.
What is Histology?
Histology is the study of tissue samples to gain insights into tissue anatomy, constituent cells, and marker expression.
Clinical studies often make use of histology to differentiate normal and diseased tissue or as a readout for drug efficacy. Histology is also commonly used in academic settings in mouse or rat models of disease. Histology involves fixing the tissue of interest on a glass slide and staining the tissue to allow microanatomical features to be observed via light microscopy. Antibody-based staining can also be used to detect particular proteins of interest.
At Sampled, we offer a full histological processing service allowing our clients to gain important insights into their tissue of interest. We typically work with oncology samples at the pre-clinical research level and organize shipments between us and the client or to third parties, including pathologists who analyze the samples. We are prepared to process samples at any stage of the histology pipeline from raw tissue to pre-stained slides.

How Does Histology Work?
Sample Receipt
No matter what sample you send us, tissue or stained slide, we ensure that it is properly catalogued and securely stored. Our logistics team is ready to handle the organization of shipping and delivery so you don’t need to worry.
Sample Processing
Raw tissue samples are fixed and then permeabilized before another round of fixation. Next, the sample is embedded in a paraffin block which is sectioned. The sections are mounted on glass slides and stained depending on the client’s requirements.
Imaging
Sampled uses Olympus VS120 microscopes to capture up to 40X digital images, so you can be sure you are getting the best quality images for analysis. Image files are securely stored and can be shared directly with the client on our SampledSphere interface.
Analysis/Storage/Further Shipment
Next, the slides can be stored, sent back to the client, or sent to a pathologist for analysis. Sampled can receive or send samples from any stage of this pipeline to match the client’s requirements.
